    Hi Nerys

Just to say a big thank you for the kind of thought of my card and also to everyone who signed it for their good wishes. I understand that the Saturday was a great success - so pleased to hear it. I had the first plaster replaced today with a lighter one which will stay on for a month. I am well and truly grounded for the foreseeable furture but thank goodness it's the tennis season on TV!!

    Love

  7. Now that the Defibrillator is installed in the village, residents might like to visit the page on this site (see menu) and familiarise themselves with a course of action...I would lkike to thank Howard for steering this whole project through to its conclusion. I am sure the community is very proud that this piece of equipment is now available for use. Let's hope it never needs to be used...

The total raised was £1000 which was split between Cancer Research Uk and Help for Heroes... Chris & I had a wonderful starter with wonderful people at Sian's. We didn't want to leave to go to the Main. Then we had a wonderful time at Barry & Julie's and didn't want to leave to go to the party. But we did - and had more fun catching up with more new and old friends. Great night.

  18. Dear Residents of Rhandirmwyn,

We are planning on getting married in St Barnabas church, Rhandirmywn this summer. My mother, Margaret James (nee Thomas) comes from Rhandirmwyn and originally lived in Dolfallt farm.

In terms of having our wedding reception, we hope to have a small relaxed affair with a BBQ and a vintage / 1950's style tea party type of theme. We hope to do this either in an old stone brick village hall or in a hired wedding teepee. Ideally in Rhandirmwyn itself, if not, then within half an hour's drive of the church.

Can anyone recommend a suitable village hall or old school building / land on which we could pitch a teepee on?

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

    Best wishes,

    Amanda and Andy

  20. Hello everybody!
Now without wishing to be the Scrooges of Rhandirmwyn, Chris & I have decided that this year we will not be sending out Xmas Cards.
    Two main reasons:
    • Eco friendly aspect. We want to save the planet by not cutting down trees......
    • I haven’t written them, and we’re gonna’ miss the posting deadline.
Now the big thing here is, that our heartfelt warm wishes to you and your loved ones for a wonderful season of festive fun and frolics in none the less sincere than what it would have been on a card.
We hope you have the best Xmas ever, and that we all have a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Instead of Christmas Cards we shall donate £20 to the Welsh Air Ambulance. (which we will give to Sian to add onto her collection from the Carol Singing....coming to a house near you this Wednesday or Thurday eveing).
Merry Christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
    Chris & Nerys

  27. Well, I have to say to those who missed the wonderful mixture of song and organ playing, you most certainly missed a tea-time delight of the most scrumptious kind. Organised by Barbie and Nigel Davies, who are both members of the St Oswald Singers from Bristol, the performance was a fund-raising event in aid of Church Funds. The singers, of which there were nine, executed their various vocal talents in a way that the style of each chosen piece was different from each other. From a medley from "Les Miserables" to Barbershop to The Teddy Bear's Picnic... it's not everyday one hears "... 'ave a banana" trilled out in St Barnabas. Oh and the solo performance of "Have Some Maderira, m'dear" provoked much chuckling from the pews!!! There was even an opportunity for us all to join in at the end and I'm suprised if we were not heard throughout the valley!!
A delicious post-performance buffet was provided, which gave everyone a chance to discuss the very entertaining hour we had just experience. A huge WELL DONE to Barbie, Nigel and the St Oswalds Singers as well as those responsible for the refreshments.

  29. The Towy Bridge Inn gets more and more interesting and more and more inviting! Food and service is FAB - especially when the shorter rounded chap was behind the bar and the welsh speaking lady was cooking. They gave us a lovely welcome, and fantastic service. Your very lucky people to have such a gem of a pub on your doorstep.

Of course none of this would have been possible were it not for Sian and her team (Penny & Tony) in organising it, but more imprtantly .....setting the questions. A big thank you and very well done.

  50. Hi Dave Collier.....
Just wondering if you have our village of Rhandirmwyn confused with another village, maybe Cilycwm 3 miles away from us. They currently have no Broadband and are still on dial up....We are very lucky in Rhandirmwyn in that we have fibre optics and quite a good speed. We wish you luck with your dealings with BT......

(Posted on 2010-09-22 10:00:00 by RDCA)
  51. Hi

I'm sending this email on behalf of Sedbergh Chamber of Trade and as a result of hearing from the BT broadband 'help' number that you are one of the communities affected by known broadband problems (Friday 17 September).

We are one of the others, and we have had enormous difficulty in communicating with BT. Finally yesterday (Friday) we did manage to get our problems partly resolved but it should not have required as much abrasive ranting as we seemed to need to do.

I'm contacting you to see whether you have an effective conduit to BT, and if so what it is, and if not whether our communities should collaborate in trying to get one in place for the future.

I look forward to hearing from you. Hope all is well in Rhandirmwyn.

    Dave Collier

  53. The VE Street Party was an undoubted success.
Echo stuff that's been said already.
To have missed it would have been a real shame.
The venue with its authentic decor, bunting, etc, was just wonderful.
The 1945 food was fantastic. No rationing in the Towy Valley!
And I just love the way people appear from all directions to help set, then - slightly worst for wear - to clear up.
At lunchtime Saturday there was no evidence that anything out of the ordinary was about to take place.
By 11am Sunday morning, everything was back to normal.
    Great community to live in.
I feel privilaged to be a part of it.

(Posted on 2010-05-10 11:14:00 by Nerys)
  54. Reflections on a lovely community event!

The VE day party celebrations at the Towy Bridge

It had the feel of a wonderful community event with girls of all ages across the valley contributing cakes and puddings reminiscent of the era. & then taking time and effort to dress somewhere between their mother and an American film star!
Apart from glamorous women and a barely adequate supply of apparently seamed stockings, many the result of Lily’s skills with an eyeliner pencil. The men included various service men of dubious rank, many of whom looked as though they should have been polishing the silver cutlery in the ballroom of the Dorchester Hotel
Some of the things that stand out for me include Sian dressed as an evacuee, John Thorpe marching in Home Guard style and Mr Davies joining in the singing of “Heno Heno hen blant bach” along with the children.
The band were excellent and I confess I enjoyed the Glen Miller numbers best, though I have to say the jiving lessons were wasted as all the ladies sought to lead!
As ever there are many people to thank and I do not propose to list them all here, but I think that a special mention is deserved by Tim & Fiona who contributed the use of the marquee for the evening, having previously won its use, at some expense, in a charity auction. But chiefly of course Emma Bedw for making the whole thing take place.
So whether we were celebrating the end of a huge and terrible conflict or the style and fashion of the forties thank you to everybody who helped and everybody who came
    Chris

Dear members of Rhandirmwyn community, the bridleway at Allt Rhyd y Groes will be temporarily closed for a period of up to 4 weeks, starting approx 18th Dec., for improvement works. It had deteriorated a lot in recent years, with culverts failing and water damage, and we are aiming to make it more safe and usable again. It may be still passable by foot if absolutely necessary, but this would be with extreme care, and would like to ask if people don't mind avoiding it during this period. Updates will be posted regarding opening/closing dates if they change significantly.
If there are any problems, please let us know on 0795 1186357, Best wishes,
    Valerie and Simon.

  69. Just got back from a our first visit to Rhandirmwyn and we would just like to say to everyone who lives there THANK YOU!

Everyone was very friendly and we did not feel like outsiders in the slightest!! Coming back home has definatly made us all the more determined to move to a place like Rhandirmwyn!!! Chris & Rachel at the pub were brilliant hosts and the food was gorgeous... starting our diet on Monday!!!

Thanks also to Huw who kept us entertained of an evening and gave us some valuable advice on the walk up to the standing stone!!!! Thanks Huw for making it slightly more easy!!!

Also a big THANK YOU to Peter & Gwen Green for allowing us to stay in their gorgous well equiped bungalow Ger-y-llan, didn't want to leave at all! Loved having an open fire in the evening for Fred (the dog) to snuggle up by!

The village was idyllic, views amazing and the people were friendly.... what more could you ask for.... oh I know... for it to stop raining!!! Seriously though, the rain did not matter, was a fabulous place and we throughly enjoyed ourselves.... Thank you all at Rhandirmwyn.

ROLL ON NEXT YEAR WHEN WE WILL RETURN!!!!!

  70. Hello. I've just found this website. Just wrote a piece, lost it in my new computer, that is deliberately pushing my boundaries, and now writing it again. I hope it doesn't appear twice. First a HUGE THANK YOU to all the people who have given me lifts along the road to Llandovery this past year or so. Being without a car has been a great way to meet local people.
Does anyone go into LLandovery on a Monday morning, 10-10.30 ish.? If so, and you could pick me and my grandson up, I'd be very glad.
Also, on Monday evening 3oth, I shall be in Llandeilo for the AGM of the Transition Town groups there. This is open to anyone interested, and will have information about the sustainable initiatives already underway, and proposed for the next stage. This is just local people getting together to make changes. If you would like to go, and can give me a lift back, please let me know. 01550 760140. Also - I will be moving house shortly. I need somewhere to live , that's cheap and cheerful. Unfortunately, it may not be in Rhandirmwyn - because mainly of transport issues. I am looking to Llandeilo / Llangadog area. But who knows - it's a mystery to me at the moment. So again, please let me know if you have any suggestions / leads. I shall be very grateful. Diolch yn fawr, Esyllt

  72. Great News re. Dai & Diane (she's certainly a fast worker!!). We all wish you the best of luck. Hope you consider the valley as a potential location for a wedding. You can choose between churches, chapels, an assortment of fields to place a marquee for the reception. We have photographers, horse and carriages, caters - you name it - weddings-r-us.
PS let us know which eisteddfod we have to aim towards.

  73. I'm sure that Nerys will want to know that Dai has moved up here to be with me. he works from home so it was easy to do. Who knows, he may soon ‘pop the question’ (hope he hasn’t read this) Nerys has taken such an interest in our welfare that, if we do tie the knot, Nerys will be the first to get an invitation. In the meantime we shall keep reading your wonderful website in the hope that it will help Dai to keep tabs on what’s going on in the area. He told me on the telephone last night that Rhandirmwyn are starting a ‘choir’? Good luck with that venture in your lovely village. Hope to see you up here at the next Eisteddfod.

  76. Greetings All. Not been on site for a few weeks as been a very busy girl and away a lot with work. Trust that the Dai & Diane romance is blosoming. (Diane - not looking for romance on line myself; I have a gorgeous bloke already).
Almost time to get myslef busy on this year's Pregressive Supper. Last year's supper indroduced us to a number of people living in the valley which have now become firm friends; Chris & I are looking forward to meeting and getting to know more lovely people this year. Perhaps Dai & Diane could become our new friends?

  77. I can only echo what Diane has said...I had a wonderful time last weekend when I visited her. On my return yesterday, I was happy to hear that the Rhandirmwyn show went well and that you had a fine sunny day. I'm also glad that the evening twmpath was a success. I shall be inviting Diane down here sometime soon and we'll celebrate in Ty Te Twm. Thanks to this website, I'm a very happy man...Dai

(Posted on 2009-09-02 17:32:00 by Dai)
  78. Hello Nerys. How kind of you to care about Dai and I. As it happens, we seem to have ‘hit it off’ as he’s my age (but I will not say what that is in respect of his anonymity) For your information, he is visiting me that weekend so we will not be able to come to the ‘ball’ but, and here’s a promise, I will be paying a return visit to him sometime and we’ll visit the tea shop as that holds a special place in our hearts. Maybe, Nerys, you would also like to meet the man of your dreams online? I hope you are as lucky as I’ve been. Good luck. Diane.

(Posted on 2009-08-18 09:12:00 by Diane)
  79. Delighted that Dai & Diane got it together. Sorry to have missed you at Ty Te Twm, but would not have wanted to be a gooseberry! Being a romantic myself, wish you a happy time together. Will you be spending lots of time in the valley together? Come to the assosication Bands Bar & BBQ on Show Night (29thAug), I'll buy you both a drink.

  82. Dear Dai, It was really lovely meeting you in Ty Te Twm. You were just as I had pictured you in my minds eye. I'm glad that we were able to arrange a meeting through this website. He / she seemed very nice and I feel confident that our secrets will be safe there... I look forward to the next time. Sorry to Nerys that she missed our initial meeting. X Diane

  83. RHANDIRMWYN RESIDENTS REVOLT - Have you seen the letter on the village notice board from the clerk to the community committee, stating that she wishes anyone who considers the bottle bins at the entrance to the village to be an eyesore, to please write to her and send the letter to the address on the notice? If you feel strongly about the appearance of the village, please put pen to paper and perhaps suggest a more unobtrusive site - or do we really need them? Perth-y-Duon Rhandirmwyn.

(Posted on 2009-08-05 11:39:00 by Dave and Joy)
  84. AT LAST - someone has installed a step at the notice board in the village. Now all the short legged, crossed eyed inhabitants can read the notices...Thank you Rhandirmwyn Community Association. Dave and Joy

(Posted on 2009-08-05 11:35:00 by Dave and Joy)
  85. Dear Diane, I've got a good idea so that we can meet...we could both email the web person of this site and ask if they could pass on our telephone numbers. What do you think? Alternatively I don't mind being seen at the tea shop. I'll wager that Nerys would be there to find out who we are...x Dai

(Posted on 2009-07-28 22:28:00 by Dai)
  86. Come On Dai !! Respond to the Lady. Don't go all shy on us now !!!!!

(Posted on 2009-07-22 08:39:00 by Nerys)
  87. OK Dai...I've been to Rhandirmwyn this morning and checked out the tea shop. We could meet there as nobody will recognise us. I looked out for you but don't know what you look like yet! I eyeballed every good looking young farmer who passed but alas none looked back...Never mind, we'll know each other when we arrange a meeting. x Diane

(Posted on 2009-07-18 12:07:00 by Diane)
  88. Many, many thanks to all those people who are deliberately NOT choosing to use the ill placed bottle bins, to avoid causing noise and disturbance to ourselves.
    Joy and Dave Wingar, Perth-y-Duon.

  89. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.
Hi All, As you may be aware the village is hosting the "Twm Sion Cati" Festival at Ystradffin on 22 / 23rd Aug.
Can you help towards making this a wonderful event by donating bottles and cans for our fundraising tombola / pic a straw.
Please leave anything you feel able to give at Pannua Stores by 31st July.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

  90. Dear Diane, Of course I forgive you...I was worried that you had disappeared but I'm so happy now that you've made contact again. I'm happy to meet. I can be smart in dress. I could be good looking and I would go and hire a Mercedes but wouldn't you rather I was me? If you agree, we'll meet in Rhandirmwyn. The new tea shop is good but not very private...x Dai

(Posted on 2009-07-02 20:32:00 by Dai)
  91. Hi again Dai...I hope you will forgive me for not sending a message recently. Your idea that we should meet is necessary I suphose as we can't keep this frienship going without meeting each other. I don't think you should need to dress as a leek...I think I would rather want to look out for a fellow who was smartly dressed and good looking and preferably driving a Mercedes! If you can fulfill all these then I'll agree to meet you. I think the best thing would be for me to come to Rhandirmwyn sometime...x Diane

  92. THE RHANDI MIDGE
We're enjoying a remarkable summer in the Upper Towy Valley but does anyone remember us ever having as many black midges in the evenings? They're almost as bad as I remember the west coast of Scotland to be. Swarms of these things attack as soon as I try to water the garden. If anyone knows how to avoid them or to treat their bites, please leave a message here. Thanks. Hylton

  93. Hi All
Do you mind if I thank every body for a great day on Saturday!
Nerys finally let ne go to bed at 1am - I had been looking for a little lay down around 4.30!
Sadly not all the cards held £50….
    Chris

  94. hey everybody - what a great night up the Towy bridge on Saturday evening with the Live music!
Great ambiance in Brianne Bar, great singer, great food: an all round good night.
Hope John get her back and does more of the same.
Quite cool to be seen at the old place! Cheating Hearts were in the audience!

  96. I’m back Diane. Sorry I was away so long…However, I missed our little meetings here on the internet. Reading your replies give me quite a thrill. I’ve not had a close friend like you before so am dying to meet you. So much for a carnation or newspaper…not me, I’ll be dressed as a leak and be shouting from the hilltops when you agree to meet me. X Dai.

  97. Excellent site - we are all so spread out in Rhandirmwyn that its great to have a 'one stop shop' to find out everything thats happening.

Is there anyone in the village who would be willing to teach local Welsh sometime during a weekday- just to conversational level?

(Posted on 2009-06-12 17:42:00 by Jane)
  98. We visited Rhandirmwyn once and liked the place. My wife and I like it more now that this site can keep us in touch with photos and the like...the improvements to the shop look good...Edwyn

  99. Hi Dai.....Yes you are right how we get to meet may be difficult to arrange, what wilth other people seeing this. Could be exciting though......On the other hand I am not known in Rhandirmwyn so perhaps a meeting as in one of your love story films with the red carnation or a newspaper might do the trick. Anyway we will see in time. Have a nice time away......Diane....

(Posted on 2009-06-08 17:20:00 by Diane)
  100. Hello again Diane. Sorry to rush back a reply so soon but I’m going away to North Wales today and will not be back until next Wednesday so thought I would reply straight away. The thought of sitting in the back row of a cinema thrills me. I’m not a treker but could put up with any sort of film if it meant meeting you cause I’m intrigued to know who you are? My favourite film’s a good love story…I don’t suppose you’re ready to give me your age and contact details yet but how do we do this and perhaps pursue a friendship without the whole world knowing?
