89 Year Old Local Resident Heads for China!

Coleg Elidyr students gave their best wishes for safe travel to a much loved member of their community this morning. Hazel Straker, age 89, has always enjoyed a little adventure in her life and is proving that age holds no bounds as she sets off this Wednesday to see the Eclipse of the sun on 22nd July in Hangzhou, China!! Whilst away her adventures will include a flight to Xian to see the Terracotta Warriers, a train ride from Hangzhou to Shanghai, a walk along the Great Wall of China and even a Rickshaw tour of Beijing! Hazel said she is looking forward to setting off and is not concerned about the language barrier as she is “pretty sure” the guides will speak English. She has been practising with chopsticks so does not envisage any problems adapting to the food, although said she will include a packet or two of biscuits in her suitcase “just in case”. Hazel joined teh staff at Coleg Elidyr in 1979 and has inspired many students and staff over the years with her vast knowledge and wisdom of the Cosmos. They all wish her well for a safe and enjoyable journey. (I'm sure all members of the Rhandirmwyn Community wish her well on her travels...Ed) (Posted 14th July 2009)
