Dementia Friendly Rhandirmwyn

Dementia Friendly Rhandirmwyn

Help your neighbours to stay part of their community
Nearly all of us have some experience of dementia in our families and circle of friends and yet the stigma of dementia still exists. Approximately 6,000 people are living with dementia in the Carmarthenshire area.
Older people, including those with dementia, are often more frequent customers of town centre shops. Most say they want to keep going out and about to use local shops and services.
But people with dementia lose confidence in themselves and worry about how they will manage in their homes, shops and businesses.

You can help by becoming Dementia Friendly
· It`s good for the community and for businesses! It will encourage people with dementia and their families and friends to continue or start giving you their custom.

· People living with dementia within our area, as well as residents around Llandovery, who visit the town, will feel reassured when visiting local organisations where people know them and understand their needs.

· It`s good for your workforce-free staff development opportunities; promote job satisfaction and show commitment to your community.

What does Dementia Friendly mean?
One of the ways that you can become more dementia friendly is by attending a Dementia Friends awareness session. These interactive sessions are around one hour, and give an over-view of dementia and how your staff will be able to support people living with dementia.

Dyfed Powys police is a Dementia Friendly organisation, and would like Rhandirmwyn to be a Dementia Friendly Community.

Dementia Friends Sessions
Dementia Friends sessions will be available for businesses, community groups or individuals, who want to make a difference. And this training is completely FREE of charge by the Alzheimer’s Society and will be flexible to have little impact on the day to day running of businesses and to suit an individual’s personal situation. If you express an interest in this training to us we will contact you in due course with dates that are available.

Dyfed Powys Police are working in partnership with The Alzheimer’s Society to help support and protect the vulnerable adults in our community. We have arranged a number of Dementia Friend sessions within the community but feel our local traders are the key link to identifying changes and vulnerability as they know their customers well. As a Police Community Support Officer I feel it is an important part of my role to help protect and keep these individuals safe, therefore I will be a single point of contact for you to report any concerns in confidence. I will make welfare visits to assess what help is needed and also to make sure they are not being taken advantage of due to their vulnerability.

The meeting for Dementia Friendly Llandovery has been set for:

Date: Tuesday 21st March 2017
Time: 6.30pm
Venue: Rhys Pritchard Hall, Llandovery.
